In "Eight Legged Freaks," Matt Czuchry plays Bret, a local boy with a love of motorcyles and an interest in the Sheriff's daughter, Ashley (Scarlett Johansson).

Matt was joined by girlfriend Kate Bosworth ("Remember the Titans") for the film's World Premiere held July 16, 2002 in Hollywood.

MATT CZUCHRY (Bret) and KATE BOSWORTH ("Blue Crush")

You have an 'interesting' scene in this film that involves a taser gun. What did you have to do to prepare for that particular scene?
Matt: What did I have to do for that effect? I practiced, actually. I got a real taser like Johnny Knoxville in "Jackass" and I practiced with it.

You're not serious.
Matt: No (laughing). Like everything else in the movie, you have to use your imagination. There aren't really any spiders there, it's all CGI, and the same thing with the taser. That was actually my audition scene. I guess I was good enough to do it. Thank God I got the job! That was actually kind of cool.

How would you describe your character?
Matt: I think he's a regular teenaged guy who just wants to have fun. He kind of faces some difficult challenges with these toxic spiders. It's a real character that's really deep and you have to go to personal levels (laughs). No, I'm just kidding. My character is just fun. It's just a good time. I just get chased by big giant spiders.

Did you do any of your own motorcycle stunts?
Matt: I trained a lot for it. I did a lot of my own stuff but most of the stuff you see up there is by some of these guys who are just a different breed than I am. Just extreme sports guys that are unbelievable. To be surrounded by that was a great experience for me.

What was it like working with CGI effects?
Matt: It was so much fun. My mom and I went afterwards to Centropolis to see the CGI effects and it was unbelievable. The fur and the dust, everything that goes in to it. It's fantastic.

You've also got a couple of other films coming out soon, including "Slap Her, She's French."
Matt: "Slap Her, She's French" comes out in August. I play the football quarterback and Piper Perabo from "Coyote Ugly" is in it. It's a fun movie. I would say it's a romantic comedy.

When Kate's movie "Blue Crush" opens in a couple of weeks, are you going to come out and support it, Matt?
Kate: He better (laughing)!
Matt: "Blue Crush" is amazing. It's a great movie and she's fantastic in it. I have to be there.

Can you tell me a little bit about the film?
Kate: Sure, of course! It's a fun movie and it's got a great underlying message for young women.

Do you surf in it?
Kate: Yes, I do.

Do you really surf?
Kate: Yes, now I do. I learned for the movie. That's the great thing about being an actor, you get to learn all these new skills.

Do you feel the message of empowering women comes across in "Blue Crush?"
Kate: I just think that you see the independence, the strength, and the individuality in each woman, riding and trying to carve up their own creations in raw nature. It's very empowering.

They're doing a lot of publicity for "Blue Crush." Are you prepared to handle it?
Kate: Oh yeah. It's a fun party. The whole movie set was fun.

Are you getting used to seeing all those huge billboards around town advertising the film?
Kate: At this point, yes. I just put all my heart and soul into it.

Are there any old school surfing films that influenced you?
Kate: To be honest, I grew up on the East Coast so I was never really much of a surfer. I moved back to California in the past year.
