"Affair of the Necklace" is a romantic drama filled with political intrigue as Jeanne De La Motte Valois (played by Hilary Swank) fights to regain her family's honor in 18th Century France. The cast showed modern glamour at the red carpet premiere, where they commented on the challenges of making a period drama.

BRIAN COX (Baron de Breteuil)

"The challenges are only the disciplines of costume and the disciplines of script, and they're not really challenges. They're just disciplines and that's what I like about period pictures. It's great discipline."

SIMON BAKER (Retaux de Villette)

"Costume, hair, makeup and patience. I always have to deal with having to do an accent somehow because people haven't really embraced Australians in films, unless it's an Australian film. We shied away from doing French accents [in this film,] so I used what I would use for a classical piece, which is sort of a bastardized version of an English accent."

CHARLES SHYER (Director)

"It's like understanding another world completely, another culture, another world, another time, understanding everything about that. It's understanding what brought about the revolution, the whole Marie Antoinette thing, what alienated Antoinette from her people and Louis XVI. It's all that French history that I didn't know anything about growing up in L.A. It's a big responsibility making this kind of a picture and I welcomed it actually. It was fun for me and maybe people will get more interested in this era because it's really very relevant to today. It's about the media. Everybody writes a book at the end of the movie. You'll see it's quite relevant to today."

HILARY SWANK (Jeanne De La Motte Valois)

"Once you get into that period costume, it does half your job for you. You don't have to work as hard. That makes you look the role anyway."
