Chipmunks Will Be Battling Beowulf and Rats for an Oscar Nomination

The Academy Accepts 12 Animated Films for Consideration

Nov 8, 2007 - 12 animated movies released in 2007 have thrown their hats into the ring for the 80th Academy Awards to be held on February 24, 2008. Consideration in the animated category does not preclude an animated movie from being eligible for other nominations, including for Best Picture. According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, up to three films of the 12 that qualified will make the final cut and be voted on for the Best Animated Feature Film released in 2007.

And the 12 Animated Movies in the Running Are:

  • Alvin and the Chipmunks

  • Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters

  • Bee Movie

  • Beowulf

  • Meet the Robinsons

  • Persepolis

  • Ratatouille

  • Shrek the Third

  • The Simpsons Movie

  • Surf's Up

  • Tekkonkinkreet

  • TMNT
